Headed north on Georgian Bay

Well, our two weeks in Victoria Harbour and Hamilton has flown by. We have enjoyed wonderful visits with our dear friends Sandie & Dave York here in 'the Harbour', as well as with our daughter, Jill + Ben and their new baby boy ORSON! What a blessed week we have had watching this little family settle in. This morning, with laundry done, re-supplies aboard, fuel topped up and fair weather forecast, we set off up the eastern coast of Georgian Bay. Tonight we find ourselves near Frying Pan Island / Sans Souci, anchored in a quiet cove. Campfire dinner was on the menu tonight along with a chilled white wine (grape juice for Eric).

Samuel de Champlain christened this area Sans Souci Islands which means 'without care'. A perfect description for this area. Beautiful sunset with sea planes coming and going. They refer to the east coast of Georgian Bay as '30 Thousand Islands'. There are mini islands (and rocks) popping up all over the bay. At one point we veered off the marked channel and into deeper waters for a better heading, but still kept an eye out for random rocks along our path. Swells were fun to ride - about 3-5 feet, but Catan handled them well.

Our excitement for the day is always when we lay anchor. Typically Eric dives down the 7 - 9 feet to ensure that we have a good hold. Tonight, he found that our anchor was holding on an unmarked submersed wire cable - not good. After a few dives, he was able to move the cable about 8 feet away and secure the anchor around a large rock. Good thing the water was warm!

Over the next few days, we will head towards Killarny and the northern channel. Apparently the most beautiful part of our journey. Stay tuned ...
