Windy days = staying put

Since we entered the US at Drummond Island, weather has been challenging. We left beautiful Frankfort on Sunday morning with our hopes pinned on a good weather forecast. It soon became evident that the marine forecast was wrong - again. We found ourselves in moderately rough waters with wind coming across our beam. After 3 hours of tacking back and forth, we decided enough was enough. We pulled into Manistee, MI after covering just over 20 miles.

Manistee is a typical 'small town USA'. The main street has lots of unique shops & cafés and we enjoyed a nice stroll through town and picked up some supplies. We are tied up at the municipal marina (which is empty), so we enjoyed the community center all to ourselves last night and caught up on some TV & internet. I even managed to get my nails done today :

With the rough water yesterday, our microwave decided to shimmy off of the table and is now broken. Not to worry, Eric to the rescue! He hopped on his bike and went off to the local K-Mart and found a $45 replacement. The cashier provided him with some packing tape so he could secure the box to the back of his bike, et voilà, we are back in business.

We are really hoping that the good weather forecast for Tuesday & Wednesday holds true. We need to make some progress getting further south towards Chicago. For the time being, we are safely docked in Manistee and enjoying our visit to this quaint little town.

P.S. despite the windy conditions, weather has been incredibly warm and enjoyable. It seems like this summer is never going to end!
