We arrived in Titusville, FL on February 21 for a one-month stay. Our location was perfect, with a dog park right next to the marina, and a grocery store within walking distance. This was a very large marina with lots of boats, but surprisingly, hardly any people around. We were in for a quiet month!
We enjoyed a visit from high school friend, James Ridge. He happened to be in town ‘birding’ for the weekend, and we managed to catch up over lunch at New York New York on the River (a run-down local spot, off the beaten path, with amazing food). It’s always great to catch up with old friends.
Without doubt, the highlight of our stop here was our week in Orlando with all of the kids (minus Ben). We rented a 4 bedroom house with our own pool & lots of space. Weather was fantastic and we spent a lot of time in the pool & backyard. We got to Disney’s Magic Kingdom for one day on Lessie’s birthday, and celebrated Eric’s birthday 2 days later. Mitch & Eric took off for a day to Busch Gardens to spend the entire day roller coasting! Their VIP passes allowed them to ‘front of the line’ all day! We girls spent the morning at the outlet mall and then it was back to the pool.
In our marina, we saw lots of manatee and the odd dolphin. We did not see the 12-foot gator that has been spotted more than once. We met other boaters from Kingston, ON and Midland, ON and enjoyed a couple of ‘docktails’ during our stay. We also enjoyed viewing a missile launch from the bridge of Catan, at nearby Kennedy Space Center – the huge ball of fire was easily visible in the evening sky.
All in all, Titusville is a very depressed area since NASA largely shut down operation. There isn’t an awful lot to write about this city, but we certainly enjoyed the secure marina and the amazing weather. We will also remember this stay as the kick off to our journey north and homeward bound. Hard to believe that we have been living on Catan for 10 months now and we’ve been ‘looping’ for 8 months! Oh the memories we have made!
